Lutz Keep In Touch is a website with information, resources, and links for past and present Lutz students and families. The purpose of this site is to provide a platform where students, families, and staff can stay connected and share information and experiences that will help navigate the road of our special needs adult’s Journey to Success.

Lutz School for Work Experience

About Us…

We provide experiences and training to promote each student’s transition from school to community life. As a work based educational program, we provide training to help develop appropriate work habits and attitudes.

Key Elements Of Our Curriculum Are…

  • Transition Concentrated. All facets of the curriculum relate to transition and are individualized to meet the needs of the student.
  • Community Based.  All classrooms are involved in community based instruction. Some classes work in various hospitals, nursing homes and area shopping malls. Other classes learn to use resources in the area such as banks, post offices, restaurants and parks.
  • School-to-Work Focused.  By collaborating with the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Growth -Rehabilitation Services, the school has been able to  provide students with individualized training, job coaching, vocational evaluation, job development and work/study support. This component is in addition to established classroom activities. The “School to Work” program received the Governor’s “Innovators to Watch” Award, a statewide recognition.

Lutz Parent Group

The Lutz Parent Group organizes many activities for the students and staff throughout the year. These activities include:

  • Halloween Dance – October
  • Parent Teacher Conference Lunch – November
  • Holiday Luncheon – December
  • Valentine/Winter Dance – January or February
  • Hawaiian Dance – April
  • Teacher Appreciation Luncheon – May
  • Completer’s Dinner/Dance – August

In addition to these functions, we also sell Lutz spirit wear and sponsor various fundraising activities throughout the year.

Monthly meetings are held to plan/discuss upcoming events. All parents and guardians of Lutz students are welcome to join us with fresh input and suggestions. If you are unable to attend the monthly meetings, there are still many ways you can help out:

  • donate your time at a daytime or evening school function
  • take part in our fundraisers that support student activities
  • donate snacks, drinks, money or other items or dances and special events.

Thank you in advance for your support! ~ The Lutz Parent Group
